PHCC Update

What a great day of celebration and growth God gave us together on Sunday.  There is a toxic influence that can so easily creep into our lives, bring sickness, and even death…..TOXIC THOUGHTS. The truth is…it is the thought that counts!

We looked at 4 toxic thought patterns – Negativity, Fear/Worry, Discontentment, and Critical.  All of us are prone to at least one of these areas and we need God’s Holy Spirit and His Word, the Bible, forming our thoughts, filling and protecting our minds.

Paul gives us great advice in Philippians 4:7-8

“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

As I thought about these 4 toxic attitudes God reminded me that they all come from a lack of trust in God’s faithfulness.  The core issue is Do I trust God? If I don’t trust God then, yes, I will be negative, full of worry, discontent, and critical.  As I learn to trust God both internally in my thoughts and externally with my actions…God can clean these toxic thoughts out of my life.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

I shared that the only place in the Bible where God says “test me” is when it comes to tithing (investing the first and best 10% of our income in God’s local church that He has invited us and our families to participate in, Malachi 3:10-12 is one of the places we read about this in the Bible).  Tithing is way more of a spiritual issue than a financial issue.  That is why I believe it is very important for churches and pastors to talk about tithing and the taboo subject of “money”.  The goal isn’t money, or budgets, or guilt, but the goal is spiritual growth and healthy relationships.  55 people returned the $5 Challenge or the 90 Day Tithe Challenge (90 day trust test_$5 challenge).
