Yesterday we continued in our TOXIC series by looking at TOXIC WORDS. Proverbs 12:18 says “The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”
Here are some reminders for you:
1. If you have received toxic words, whether intentional or unintentional, remember you are not who satan says you are, you are not who others say you are, you are who God says you are! I used the story of Karen Carpenter to illustrate how toxic comments can take root, grow, blossom, and destroy a person. God wants us to guard our hearts.
2. Play the game “Truth or Trash” with your children. It is VERY important our children, and we, write down and identify what is truth and what is trash! Here are some that I used yesterday (Which are truth? Which are trash?): I will never fit in. I am an irreplaceable member of God’s team. I have made too many mistakes for God to forgive me. For God so loved me that he gave his one and only Son, Jesus Christ, that if I believe in Him I will not die but have everlasting life. If I call on the name of the Lord I will be saved. I will never make a positive difference in the world. God made me special-I am God’s idea. Sex after marriage is boring. If I don’t drink alcohol I won’t have any fun or have any friends. I am a friend of God-He calls me friend. Money will make me happy. Everything we have is a gift from God. God has given me skills and gifts to bless the world. If I am a follower of Christ, life will be boring and I will not have any friends. The greatest, most exciting adventure in the world is found in being an all-in follower of Jesus Christ. I am ugly. Man looks at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart. The harder I work, the more I achieve, the better I do in school or work the more valuable I am to my family. God gives me wisdom and courage when I ask him. I am beautiful in the sight of God.
3. Until the end of 2010, speak and write LIFE-GIVING words EVERY chance you get. Whenever you THINK something good about someone – I want you to give that thought life by TELLING them, SAYING it or TEXTING them or WRITING them!! A milkman’s life-giving words made a huge difference in the life of Cheryl Prewitt.
Have a great week. See you this Sunday as we look at TOXIC Relationships.
Side note #1 – Today we put in our 5-month notice at our rented office space. This was weird, exciting, and nerve-racking all at once! We have rented this space for 9 years. We are anticipating that the ministry center will be ready to move in by May 1st. THANKS to everyone who is making this a possibility. The ministry center will fuel more changed lives!
Side note #2 – Here is what God says about you in His journal, the Bible:
–You are CREATED by the MASTER CRAFTSMAN! (Genesis 1:1, 27) In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth…So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
–You are a PLANNED MASTERPIECE! You are not a mistake, an accident, or a random happening. Your are not inferior. (Psalm 139:13-14) For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your words are wonderful, I know that full well.
–You are CARED FOR! (Genesis 3:21) The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.
–You HAVE PURPOSE! (Ephesians 2:10) For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
–You are ACCEPTABLE! (Romans 15:7) Receive one another, then, just as Christ also received you, to God’s glory.
–You are LOVABLE! (Jeremiah 31:3) I have loved you with an everlasting love… (Isaiah 54:10) Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken…
–You are VALUABLE! (Luke 12:24) Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!
–You are FORGIVABLE! (1 John 1:9) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
For those of you who have asked God for forgiveness, who have received Christ as your Savior, and are a Christ-follower, I read these journal entries about YOU!
–You are a CHILD OF GOD! (John 1:12) But to all who have received him–those who believe in his name–he has given the right to become God’s children …
–You are PROTECTED! (Isaiah 43:1-2) …‘Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.’
–You are a NEW CREATION! (2 Corinthians 5:17) Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
–You are the APPLE OF GOD’S EYE! (Psalm 17:8) Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.
–You are TREASURED! (Deuteronomy 7:6) For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.
–You are a FRIEND of Christ! (John 15:15) I no longer call you slaves, because the slave does not understand what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because I have revealed to you everything I heard from my Father.
–You are an IRREPLACEABLE PART OF A NEW FAMILY! (Galatians 3:28) There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female–for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 4:7) So you are no longer a slave but a son, and if you are a son, then you are also an heir through God.
–You are a CITIZEN of heaven! (Philippians 3:20) But our citizenship is in heaven–and we also await a savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ …
–You are BLESSED in the heavenly places! (Ephesians 1:3) Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms in Christ .
–You are RESCUED! (Colossians 1:13-14) For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
